Carol Bertsch, Attorney
Carol Bertsch has a natural ability to connect with people. You can see it in the way she listens carefully, understands what matters most, and helps clients thoughtfully evaluate their options. She treats every client with dignity, patience, and compassion, and even makes house calls for those unable to come into the office.
Carol earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law in 1992 and began practicing elder law in 1996. In 2012, she became a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA), a distinction earned through rigorous testing and a demonstrated focus in elder and disability law. She is one of only two CELA attorneys in San Antonio.
Carol is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Bexar County Women’s Bar Association, and the San Antonio Bar Association. She has been recognized for her work in elder law, including receiving the Barbara Kishpaugh Award from the San Antonio Bar Association’s Elder Law Section and being named a Top Attorney (2025) by San Antonio Magazine.
Outside of work, Carol enjoys trying new restaurants with her husband, spending time with her family, and mentoring through the THRU Project.

Brennen Boze, Attorney
Brennen Boze is a dedicated and empathetic attorney with a passion for helping families navigate difficult decisions. After more than a decade as a litigator, he shifted his focus to elder law, assisting seniors, individuals with disabilities, and their families in securing care, protecting what they’ve built, and planning for the future.
Brennen earned his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Texas at Austin and his J.D. from Baylor Law School, where he received a Public Interest Summer Fellowship to pursue pro bono work. He has appeared in state and federal courts across Texas, representing clients ranging from individuals in crisis to large corporations.
He serves as Chair of the San Antonio Bar Association’s Probate, Guardianship, and Estate Planning Section and is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. Brennen is also a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a member of the Texas Bar College.
He regularly speaks to local organizations on estate planning, probate, and long-term care planning, and was recently named a 2026 Hearts of Gold Honoree by Morgan’s for his work supporting families in caregiving.
Outside of the office, Brennen enjoys spending time with his family exploring San Antonio and the surrounding hill country.

Autumn Puckett, Attorney
Autumn Puckett is a compassionate attorney with a genuine heart for helping others. She began her legal career in probate and business law before spending over five years in federal compliance. Her passion for supporting seniors and their families led her back to elder law, where she focuses on guiding clients with kindness, dignity, and respect.
Autumn earned her bachelor’s degree with honors from The Pennsylvania State University and her J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law, where she participated in the Law Clinic and received the Francisco Leos Award for Excellence. She is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, Bexar County Women’s Bar Association, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
She also serves as Vice President of the Funeral Consumers Alliance of San Antonio, a nonprofit dedicated to educating the community about end-of-life planning, and is actively involved in local outreach and service.
Autumn is a proud mother of two and has been married for over 23 years to a retired Army veteran. She understands firsthand the challenges military families face and the importance of having thoughtful legal planning in place. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family in San Antonio, where she was born and raised.

Jody Hudspeth, Senior Paralegal
Jody is our enthusiastic senior paralegal and will be celebrating 10 years with the firm this summer. She holds a bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a certificate from UTSA’s Paralegal Program. Before transitioning into the legal field, Jody wrote and edited business publications, and her strong writing skills continue to support the firm’s marketing efforts.
She enjoys supporting her teammates, working with elder care nonprofits, and most importantly, helping seniors in the community. Jody is an active member of the Alamo Area Home Care Council and the State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division.
Outside of work, Jody enjoys cooking with her husband and visiting Morgan’s Wonderland with their daughter.

Sam Sanchez, Paralegal and Operations Manager
Sam is originally from Kansas and has proudly served in the U.S. Army. He enlisted in 1990 and was deployed during Desert Storm, later moving to San Antonio in 1994 after completing his tour of duty. In 2007, Sam reenlisted with the 101st Airborne Division and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2008 for a one-year combat tour. He was medically retired from the Army in 2012.
After returning to San Antonio, Sam began his career as a legal assistant in estate planning and brings over nine years of experience in the field. He is a valued member of our team, and we’re grateful to have him.
Outside of work, Sam is an avid college football fan and cheers on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He and his wife, Rae, are devoted animal lovers and have six rescue dogs. He also enjoys painting miniatures.

Maria Molina, Paralegal
Maria has always had a heart for helping others. She began her career as a social worker in her home country of Spain before moving to the United States several years ago.
She is a graduate of the University of Granada and brings more than 15 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities. Maria is dedicated to supporting those in need, and we are grateful to have a paralegal with such diverse experience and perspective on our team.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.

Susan Alcantar, Intake Specialist
Susan joins Bertsch & Boze Elder Law, PC with a strong background in in-home care and Medicaid. She previously served as a Personal Assistance Services (PAS) supervisor for a local in-home care company, where problem-solving and ensuring client satisfaction were her primary responsibilities.
Her 20 years of experience as a caregiver and PAS supervisor transition naturally into her role here, where she supports incoming calls and appointment coordination. Susan has extensive experience working with seniors and families, and her sunny disposition, compassion, and exceptional customer service shine through in every interaction.
