Carol Bertsch

Attorney

Carol Bertsch really is an old soul. You can see it in her eyes when she listens intently to what you need and helps you evaluate all your options. She treats her clients with dignity, patience, and understanding and will make house calls to those unable to visit the office.


Carol received her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1992 and started her elder law practice in 1996. In 2012, she earned a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) certification after completing rigorous testing and demonstrating her practice’s focus on elder and disability law. To maintain her CELA, Carol continues to specialize in elder law and completes continuing education credits for advanced practitioners.


Carol Bertsch is a member of several organizations including the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Bexar County Women’s Bar Association, San Antonio Bar Association, and the National Association of Women Business Owners. Carol has been the recipient of the Barbara Kishpaugh Award from the San Antonio Bar Association Elder Law Section.


When Carol’s not working, she’s trying new restaurants with her husband and visiting her mom and her siblings. She’s also a mentor for the THRU Project.

Brennen Boze

Brennen Boze

Attorney

Brennen Boze is a dedicated, empathetic attorney with a true passion for helping those in need. After more than ten years working as a litigator, Brennen turned his efforts toward assisting the elderly, disabled, and their families with securing necessary care, preserving their legacies, and ensuring peace of mind for the future.


Brennen obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with honors, and received his J.D. from Baylor Law School, where he was awarded a Public Interest Summer Fellowship to pursue pro bono work. He has appeared in state and federal courts across Texas, representing everything from individuals in crisis to large corporations, and brings over a decade of experience to the Law Offices of Carol Bertsch, PC.


Brennen is an Officer of the Probate, Guardianship and Estate Planning Section of the San Antonio Bar Association and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He has been elected a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and is a member of the Texas Bar College. He regularly gives presentations to local organizations on the topics of estate planning, probate, and long-term care planning.


Brennen and his family spend their free time exploring the city and surrounding hill country, sampling all the cultural and culinary experiences it has to offer.


Autumn Puckett

Attorney

Autumn Puckett is a compassionate person with a heart to help others. Autumn began her legal career working in Probate and Business Law but quickly moved into Federal Compliance for over five years. Her passion to support the Elder community and their families has been a strong part of her desire to practice law and she has returned to her focus to this field. Autumn strives daily to treat others with kindness, dignity, and respect and truly embodies this effort.


Autumn obtained a Batchelor’s degree with honors from The Pennsylvania State University and her J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law where she participated in Law Clinic and was awarded the Francisco Leos Award for Excellence. She is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, Bexar County Women’s Bar Association, and National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys with plans to expand her volunteer efforts in the community.


Autumn has been married to a retired Army Veteran for over 20 years and is a proud mother of two adult children currently in college. Autumn’s free time is spent with her husband and extended family in San Antonio where she was born and raised.

Senior Paralegal

Jody is our enthusiastic senior paralegal who will be celebrating 10 years with us this summer. She has a bachelor’s degree from UT Austin and a certificate from UTSA’s Paralegal Program. Before her career as a paralegal, she wrote and edited business publications. We leverage Jody’s writing skills in our marketing efforts. Have you read our newsletter? It’s excellent. Jody enjoys supporting her teammates, elder-care nonprofits, and most importantly, seniors in her community. Jody is an active member of the Alamo Area Home Care Council and The State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division.


On the weekends, Jody enjoys cooking with her husband and visiting Morgan’s Wonderland with their daughter.


Michelle Higbee

Paralegal

Coming to us from southern Oregon by way of Arizona, Michelle has had the unique opportunity of being a paralegal in all three states.


Michelle has more than 20 years’ experience in different practice areas ranging from family law to bankruptcy, though Elder Law is her favorite.Her varied background as a former business owner, an office manager, and as a diversified paralegal enriches our practice.


Michelle is an avid reader who loves to sew and crochet. However, her greatest joy comes from spending time with her 11 grandchildren. Michelle’s other passions include family history and community service.

Sam Sanchez

Sam Sanchez

Paralegal

Sam is originally from Kansas. He joined the U.S. Army in 1990, deployed to Desert Storm, and he moved to San Antonio when his tour of duty ended in 1994. In 2007, Sam reenlisted in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division. He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2008 for a one-year combat tour and was medically retired from the U.S. Army in 2012.


When Sam returned to San Antonio, he started his next career path as a Legal Assistant with an Estate planning Attorney and has over 9 years’ experience in this field. Sam is an asset to our team, and we’re glad he’s with us.


Sam is an avid college football fan—the Nebraska Cornhuskers are his favorite team. Sam and his wife, Rae, are animal lovers and have six rescue dogs. He also loves to paint miniatures.


Maria Molina

Paralegal

Maria was born with a heart to help people and was a social worker in her home country of Spain before she came to the United States several years ago.


She’s a graduate of the University of Granada with more than 15 years in working with people with disabilities. Maria strives to help those in need. We are lucky to have a receptionist with such a rich background.


Maria is a world traveler who enjoys reading and spending time with her family as much as possible.

Helen Flores

Director of Operations

Helen Flores, long time geriatric professional in the San Antonio area came to the Law Offices of Carol Bertsch, PC with confidence to still support older adults, now in the legal education and support realm. Helen’s background has been in the facility and in-home care services. She also is a former employee of the Alzheimer’s Association, yet still a strong advocate for those living with dementia. Helen enjoys giving presentations in the community to lend her expertise to those navigating the aging process. She adores socializing, walking her dog and a new empty nesting activity: gardening.


Darlene Hope-Jackson

Intake Specialist

Darlene Hope-Jackson, our new intake specialist, comes to The Law Offices of Carol Bertsch, PC with a background in eldercare services. Before Darlene joined us, she assisted AACOG with guardianship monitoring and with helping seniors register for guardianship alternatives, including wills and powers of attorney. Recently, Darlene helped recruit a senior volunteer to be a companion to another senior.


Darlene loves being a conduit for this type of outreach because it combats isolation and creates lasting friendships. Family is everything to Darlene. She’s married to a retired army veteran, and she has 3 adult children and 10 grandchildren. Darlene can truly relate to many of our clients, as she and her siblings are helping their mom navigate the uncertain path of being an older adult.


Darlene has her BA in Business from Wayland Baptist University. When Darlene’s not working, she enjoys dance class, music, reading, and traveling.
